The future of State Street begins here
Due to ongoing wet weather conditions, work has been temporarily postponed until May 13-17. For safety reasons, traffic control devices and pedestrian detours must remain in place.
The Life on State Implementation Plan, initiated by Salt Lake City, is focused on promoting economic development, improving transportation options, and addressing specific safety measures along the five mile stretch of State Street between North Temple and 3300 South.
The section of the plan between 600 South to 800 South is the first in a series of planned improvements on the State Street corridor. Salt Lake City is excited to bring expanded walkways and street landscaping to this section of State Street.
Construction Ahead
Construction on State Street between 600 South and 800 South to resume in April 2024. Safety and beautification upgrades in this section scheduled to be complete by Fall 2024!
What to Expect During Construction?
Work will resume the week of April 15 and is scheduled for completion Fall 2024.
Construction will take place between 7:00 am – 5:00 pm daily.
Curb, gutter and sidewalk removals will begin on the westside of the road near 600 South.
Access to businesses will be maintained whenever possible. Brief access interruptions may occur during active work, these will be coordinated with each business individually.
Pedestrian detours will be in place during construction, please follow posted detour signs.
Temporary (approx. 1 week) driveway access closures can be expected while driveways are removed and replaced.
To accommodate new landscaped medians and bulb-outs between 600 - 700 South, permanent on-street parking reductions will occur (see map below).
Lane closures and lane shifting can be expected to accommodate work.
IMPORTANT TO NOTE: UDOT will also be conducting a repaving project this summer in the area - that work is not associated with this project. Details on that effort will be provided separately.
